Review of assessment outcomes, appeals & extensions
Applicants who have received their Migration Skills Assessment outcome, may request a review of the assessment, appeal against the outcome of their assessment, or request an extension of a positive outcome letter for migration purposes.
Review of Assessment
If you disagree with your Migration Skills Assessment outcome, you can request to have your assessment decision reviewed. Your application for an Appeal of a negative decision must be lodged within (6) months of the issuing of the original outcome or review outcome letter.
An additional fee is payable to cover the costs of processing the review of your Migration Skills Assessment outcome. A review of assessment will take up to 4 (four) weeks.

Appeals
If your Migration Skills Assessment and your review applications were both unsuccessful, you can appeal against the decision. Your appeal will be assessed by the independent, external assess authority VETASSESS.
An additional fee is payable to cover the costs of processing the appeal. An appeal will take up to 8 (eight) weeks to be processed.

Request for Extension
If the validity period of your Migration Skills Assessment is nearing its end, applicants may request a maximum 12-month extension of their outcome letter if the original result has not yet expired.
An additional fee is payable cover the costs of processing the extension request.

Migration agents
If you are using a migration agent to help with your review, appeal or extension request, please use IML’s Migration Agent Authorisation Form to inform IML about the appointment of a migration agent in relation to your application. Please ensure that you sign the form and attach it to your lodgement as supporting documentation.
