Review of Assessment
If you disagree with the outcome of your Migration Skills Assessment, you can request to have your assessment decision reviewed. Your request for a review must be submitted within six (6) months from the date of the original outcome.
An additional fee is payable to cover the costs of processing the review of your Migration Skills Assessment outcome. Your application will be evaluated by a different assessor than the one who assessed your original application.
Here’s how you can lodge a review:
- Prepare Supporting Documents: Gather any additional employment evidence and compose a cover letter addressing in detail the reasons provided in your outcome letter.
- Prepare Identification Documents.
- Submit Your Review Request: Lodge your review request via the Online Review Request portal. (You will be prompted to make the payment for the review fee at the end of the online form.)
- Once your payment is received, an acknowledgement letter will be sent to confirm the receipt of your review application. This letter will also include a link for uploading additional supporting documents and identification materials.
- You will receive your review outcome within the estimated timeframe.
We aim to maintain a fair and comprehensive assessment process for all applicants. However, it is important to note that lodging a review on a successful outcome with the expectation of including more employment is not guaranteed.
Appeals
If your Migration Skills Assessment and your review applications were both unsuccessful, you can appeal against the decision. Your request for an appeal must be submitted within six (6) months from the date of the original outcome.
An additional fee is payable to cover the costs of processing the appeal. Your appeal will be assessed by the independent, external assess authority VETASSESS.
Here’s how you can lodge an appeal:
- Prepare Supporting Documents: Gather any additional employment evidence and compose a cover letter addressing in detail the reasons provided in your original outcome letter and/or review outcome letter.
- Prepare Identification Documents.
- Submit Your Appeal Request: Lodge your review request via the Online Appeal Request portal. (You will be prompted to make the payment for the appeal fee at the end of the online form.)
- Once your payment is received, an acknowledgement letter will be sent to confirm the receipt of your appeal application. This letter will also include a link for uploading additional supporting documents and identification materials.
- You will receive your appeal outcome within the estimated timeframe.
Request for Extension
If the validity period of your original Migration Skills Assessment is two years and it is nearing its end, applicants may request an extension on their outcome letter. The extension only extends for another 12 months on the original outcome issuing date.
For example, you received a positive outcome letter on 1 January 2020, and it is valid for two years. If you request an extension, the extension letter will state that your original outcome letter remains valid until 1 January 2023.
If you have obtained new employment since your original skills assessment, requesting an extension does not endorse or include the new employment. In such cases, you will need to lodge a new skills assessment application and provide appropriate evidence for the new employment. The extension request is solely intended to extend the validity of the original outcome letter and does not cover any changes or endorsements related to new employment.
An additional fee is payable cover the costs of processing the extension request.
Here’s how you lodge an Extension Request:
- Prepare your original outcome letter.
- Prepare Identification Documents.
- Submit Your Extension Request: Lodge your extension request via the Online Extension Request portal. (You will be prompted to make the payment for the Extension fee at the end of the online form.)
- Once your payment is received, an acknowledgement letter will be sent to confirm the receipt of your Extension Request.
- You will receive your Extension Letter within the estimated timeframe.
