Designing from the inside out: Harnessing the power of lived experience in leadership

Bundaberg event

The mental health sector has spent years grappling with a deceptively simple truth; people with lived experience hold forms of insight that no classroom, qualification, or traditional leadership pathway can replicate. This knowledge is not only valuable, but also essential in the rooms where decisions are made that shape services, culture and outcomes.

In this reflective and thought-provoking session, we welcome, Chloe Jesson, Deputy CEO of Queensland Alliance for Mental Health (QAMH). Chloe has seen firsthand how building a strong peer workforce challenges long‑held assumptions about expertise, hierarchy, and what effective leadership truly looks like.

Chloe will explore:

• How intentionally designing leadership roles that value lived experience can strengthen culture, trust and decision‑making
• Practical ways to lead with authenticity while navigating the complex environments modern leaders operate in.
• Hard-won lessons that apply to leaders across all industries.

This session will take place in person in Bundaberg, with an online attendance option available for those joining from outside the region.

We look forward to welcoming you to the session, wherever you are located!
