Welcome to Leadership Matters for June. This edition is on the theme of communication – something that has been truly tested over the past two years with hybrid working arrangements (do we all have Zoom fatigue yet?!). We have great diversity in our content this month and across five articles, we are showcasing four of our IML ANZ Members. This really highlights how much expertise, experience, and wisdom sits within our Membership community.
In our feature article, Eric Vigo MIML, shares his passion for using Improv in the professional world. This article shares a wealth of advice on the practical ways that Improv can be used to enhance communication within teams and with clients/customers. Eric also shares his favourite examples of leaders who use Improv in the workplace every day with great success.
Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking – and it is common! But it is also a necessary skill to master as you progress through your management and leadership journey. Our article, ‘Develop your unique public speaking voice’ shares a number of practical tips for finding your unique voice and overcoming the fear of public speaking.
Author and recruitment specialist, Roxanne Calder, questions why more companies aren’t utilising the vast skills of the mature workforce. She makes the case that 35 is no longer the midpoint of our careers and highlights the incredible benefits that businesses can reap by hiring more mature candidates.
We also interview one of our MemX Mentoring Program partnerships to discuss the benefits they’ve both experienced by being part of the program. Mentor, Tony Beaven CMgr FIML is in the UK, and Mentee Jeramy Hope FIML is in Sydney – proving that excellent communication can overcome the barrier of distance.
In this month’s Member Spotlight, we sat down with the impressive Shelly Park FIML who has recently stepped down from her position as CEO of Australian Red Cross Lifeblood to pursue her role as a mentor and coach to senior executives and directors. Shelly delivered a powerful and motivating speech at our recent Melbourne Member event and is a fountain of knowledge on leadership and engaging a workforce through times of change.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Institute.
Please connect with the IML ANZ team and let us know what you need from us. We would love your feedback.
Be your best,
