The Institute of Managers and Leaders offers unique and tailored Partnership opportunities to Universities in Australia and New Zealand. Through our exclusive long-term collaboration with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in the UK, we are uniquely positioned to offer the internationally recognised Chartered Manager designation to students studying accredited courses, and a pathway towards Chartered Manager status. The partnership with CMI offers Universities, students and academics a great opportunity to set themselves apart and stand out.
Each University Partnership is bespoke, but our offering incorporates Professional Accreditation, Industry Engagement, Academic Engagement and Affiliate Membership for students.
Our proposition is built around three core elements:
Accreditation is a proven way to raise your profile and attract more students to your University. In addition to accreditation, the Institute is uniquely positioned to embed a Chartered Manager pathway into your leadership and management focused Programs.
This pathway will differentiate your courses and – since the Chartered Manager designation is internationally recognised and valued – it can add real value in terms of increased student numbers.
Your students on accredited programs become Affiliate Members of the Institute of Managers and Leaders (IMLa) and we support them throughout their university journey and a year afterwards boosting their employment prospects.
Students on accredited courses will achieve an additional, internationally-recognised qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (UK), as well invaluable leadership content, influential local and national business networks and access to rich leadership and management content, like our Leadership Direct online database.
Our programs are designed to support the students’ university experience. The Institute provides opportunities for students to bring the theory into the workplace through mentoring and industry engagement.
These include, amongst other things, guest lectures from business leaders, on and off campus networking, leadership-focused events and nationally-recognised awards, and projects based with industry Members.

University Partnerships have a proven impact on student recruitment.
Recruitment is supported through a range of innovative interventions, including marketing and events, student support and accreditation.
Studies show that 42% of students say that accreditation played a significant part in their choice of University. Furthermore, in the UK, 8 out of 10 University partners say they have seen a positive impact on their student recruitment activity through partnering with their professional leadership association (Research from CMI UK, 2016).
Employability is a key challenge across universities globally.
Most employers are looking for graduates who can bring more than their degree. Our University Partnership will enhance your students’ employment prospects.
In the UK, 9 out of 10 University Partners say that the partnership has had a positive impact on student employability following graduation (CMI UK, 2016).
Students increasingly seek additional value from their time at university.
In a highly competitive University sector, a partnership with the Institute enhances student engagement with a range of practical content and great opportunities to interact with the business community.
97% of University Partners agree that accreditation and partnership has a positive impact on student achievement (CMI UK, 2016)
