Amidst the debris of the current/post pandemic workplace lies some of the defining factors in organisational success – employee engagement and motivation.
Riding on the back of media fascination with the mass resignation and impacts of the pandemic, there has never been a time where so many employees are disengaged. In fact, according to a recent Gallup report, only 15% of employees globally are engaged and motivated in the workplace.
One of the things we are clear about is that our old ways of working, be they organisational, economic or social, don’t seem to apply in the predictable way they did in the pre-pandemic landscape. In this context, are team members disengaged or merely disoriented? How can we tell the difference and, once we know, how do we help them regain a sense of pride, belonging and, most importantly, purpose?
Disengagement breeds high turnover rates, stifles creativity and innovation and lowers productivity, not to mention the harmful impacts on personal well-being. So, when ping pong tables and expensive coffee machines aren’t cutting it, what can we do to really boost engagement and motivation?
