Genos Model Of Emotional Intelligence
The Genos model of Emotional Intelligence was developed in the late 1990s by Dr Ben Palmer and Professor Con Stough at Swinburne University Australia.
The questions in the Genos emotional intelligence test asks leaders (and their observers) to rate themselves on what the leader does with their emotional intelligence in their role. The Genos Emotional Intelligence Leadership Feedback report then provides the leader with the necessary insight into their emotional intelligence by comparing the importance of the competencies below with how well they demonstrate them in the workplace.
The Genos Emotional Intelligence leadership feedback model consists of six competencies:
- Awareness of Others
- Emotional Reasoning
- Inspiring performance
What is emotional intelligence?
Emotions play a huge part of our day-to-day interactions with each other. It is no surprise that organisational research has found that there is a direct correlation between an individual’s feelings and their performance.
The set of skills that help individuals understand emotions (in themselves and others) and the way they affect our interactions is called Emotional Intelligence (EI). A leader’s ability to understand emotions and how they guide actions/behaviours is the key to improving ‘soft skills.’
Why use emotional intelligence tools?
Emotional intelligence tools can be used to improve:
- Team/organisational cohesiveness
- Effective communication
- Personal and professional development
- Leadership effectiveness
Types of Genos Emotional Intelligence tools
There are three different types of Genos Emotional Intelligence tools that the Institute of Managers and Leaders can provide. Each report uses a ‘traffic light’ methodology to easily depict the gaps between the importance and demonstration of each competency.
Let us do the work for you!
Using the Institute to conduct Genos Emotional Intelligence profiling provides you with the confidence and peace of mind that comes from using Australia’s most established management membership organisation. The Institute will ensure that information is gathered and reported back in confidence.
Simply provide us with a list of participants (and their email addresses), and we’ll do the rest! The Institute will administer the survey questionnaires, invite participants (and their observers) to complete the survey, monitor the progress, send reminders when necessary and generate the reports.
