Happy New Year! Welcome back and welcome to the January edition of Leading Edge. I hope the break has given you an opportunity to catch up with loved ones, celebrate the year’s successes and reflect on your aspirations for the year ahead. In 2019, we hope to welcome more Chartered Managers, universities and Members into our Institute from across Australia and New Zealand.
This month we’re thinking about managing personal and professional development. Indeed, there’s never been a better time to get a kickstart to your career-focused new year’s resolutions with our expansive suite of development programs, events and resources at your fingertips.
Get your leadership accredited in 2019 by becoming a Chartered Manager. With 500 professionals awarded with the prestigious professional designation in the past year, the demand is growing for the Chartered status within leadership networks and workplaces. Going Chartered this year is the perfect way to give your career, recognition and development a boost. Focused on Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Chartered Manager will certify your experience, professionalise your expertise, and solidify your commitment to improving your management and leadership. Differentiate yourself from other managers this year – find out more about Chartered Manager.
For those who want to lift their leadership capability in 2019, our Foundations of Intentional Leadership program is a worthwhile investment to establish yourself as an intentional leader. This popular program was designed to empower technical specialists with the leadership skills and expertise to manage a team with confidence. The 12-week blended program combines face-to-face development days, online work and individual leadership coaching, followed by 4 months of leadership mentoring. In 2018, we ran this program across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to a fantastic response – 93% of attendees said they would recommend the program. This has been incredibly heartening to hear at the Institute that both individual professionals and corporate employers were looking for this innovative style of management development program. If you’re interested in taking the next step in your career, I strongly encourage you to enrol in the Foundations of Intentional Leadership program. If you know someone you think would be suitable, it is a fantastic program to recommend.
After the overwhelming success of our Foundations of Intentional Leadership program last year, the Institute will be investing into expanding our program offerings in 2019. I am delighted to share with you that we’ll be launching two new programs; one aimed at helping experienced managers navigate the political corporate landscape and juggle the act of working under senior management while managing a team themselves. The other program will be focused on developing senior level leadership skills and business management competencies. These exciting new programs will be announced later in the year. If you would like to be the first to know, please register your interest with the corporate solutions team – email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Of course, committing to your development in the new year doesn’t mean you need to take up a program or accreditation. There are plenty of fantastic development opportunities already built into your Membership that you can access now and without spending another cent. One of our most highly acclaimed and popular Member benefits is our exclusive complimentary 4-month mentoring program – Member Exchange. For Mentees, this is an invaluable opportunity to receive professional wisdom, expertise and guidance from established managers and leaders that can help shape their careers. Meanwhile, for Mentors, mentoring is a fantastic way to continue opening career doors, enhancing their leadership skills as well as shaping the next generation of managers and leaders. Registrations for Mentors and Mentees for our February cohort will be closing soon – register online today.
There are also so many on-the-go development resources offered with your IML ANZ Membership. For those interested in furthering their development this year, but are unsure where to start, I encourage you to start with one of the Institute’s many People Analytics tools that can provide a detailed development needs analysis. Our LPI and IML 360 tools give you a holistic understanding of your strengths and weaknesses from the perspectives of different stakeholders. Our DISC tool helps create a profile of your professional personality, detailing the hallmarks of your working style. The Genos Emotional Intelligence tools can provide you with a breakdown of your EQ competencies to depict your demonstration across six EQ categories. These People Analytics tools can put you on a direct path to owning your development in the new year.
And finally, I’m delighted to say IML ANZ’s world-class events will continue to run and expand in 2019. Already, we have many events listed on our website for the next few months. These include webinars, our acclaimed International Women’s Day luncheons, networking events and Masterclasses.
