Exclusive: IML launches new 360° tool for Corporate Members
The Institute of Managers and Leaders (IML) has launched a new 360° tool that measures individual management and leadership capability, and provides a personalised development needs analysis to highlight areas for improvement and a plan to develop those skills.
Currently available to Corporate Member staff, the IML 360° is underpinned by IML’s Management Competency Framework and ultimately by the same framework that supports the Chartered Manager designation.
The survey measures individuals across three key levels; Manage and Lead Self, Manage and Lead Others and Manage and Lead the Business and Resources. The personalised development needs analysis is delivered as a report that presents the overall results of the 360° survey by drilling down into the results for each competency. The report provides further analysis of the individual against a unique benchmark and measurement capability that gives direction to future development plans.
IML Management Competency Framework
The full IML Management Competency Framework is available upon request from the IML Corporate Team. These are the competencies that IML believe to be the most important to develop into an effective manager and leader and underpin the Chartered Manager designation. The framework does not protest to be a “catch all” in terms of the wide range of skills that is required to be an effective and engaging manager and leader but it does provide a strong and broad basis for development. A few key points to note:
- The competency model is cumulative – that is, the skills you learn and develop within Manage and Lead Self, Manage and Lead Others and finally Manage and Lead the Business and Resources need to be continually developed. Many of these initial competencies are the key to your entire career journey although the context may change as you progress.
- The ideal is always to develop a competency before you need it and this is especially true for those within Manage and Lead Others and Manage and Lead the Business and Resources. Try and stay ahead of your development needs.
