Born in Aberdeen and raised in Moray, Scotland, Ian completed an Exxon-Mobil sponsored training scheme in Edinburgh and commenced working offshore in the UK oil and gas industry in 1993. He joined BP in 1997 before transferring to Apache Corporation and was given the opportunity to move to Australia with Apache in 2006.
In 2015 the Australian division of Apache Corporation was purchased by Private Equity owners and Quadrant Energy was formed. Ian was appointed Director of Operations and held responsibility for all of Quadrant’s producing assets and was later promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Following the takeover of Quadrant by Santos in November 2018, Ian transferred to Santos in the new role of Vice President, Production Operations.
Ian holds a Master’s Degree in Management from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is presently Chairperson of the Industry Advisory Board for ACEPT (Australian Centre for Energy & Process Training). In addition he retains Chartered Manager status in the UK and is an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders ANZ.
