Peter Shanahan, General Counsel, Commissioner of Police

Peter has been a career police officer and spent a total of 21 years in the Criminal Investigation Branch, including service in the Drug Task Force and the Major Crime Branch and as the manager of the Child Exploitation Investigation Section and the Australian National Child Offender Register. Peter has also served as the manager of the Police Media and was a qualified anti-terrorist hostage negotiator. In September 2009 Peter was transferred to the South Australia Police Office of the General Counsel to work as a lawyer and then in January 2010 he was appointed as the manager of that team of 6 lawyers, he retired as a police officer in 2012 to take up the General Counsel role as a public sector employee.

Peter has a Masters of Education with his thesis having focused on organisational learning and the influence of culture on the organisation’s ability to learn and continuously improve. Peter is currently the chairman of the Police Health Fund and Emergency Services Health. Both are private health insurance funds with Police Health covering more than 50,000 people and Emergency Services Health commencing as a brand new fund in January this year. Peter is also the past chairman of Mercedes College Council. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Sharon Ferrier, Director, Persuasive Presentation

Sharon has a knack for making the complex simple. She believes that ‘passionate people persuade’ and that to make your message stick, you need to balance information with delivery style. Sharon’s background is in sales and marketing and along the way has studied business administration, marketing, management, journalism as well as more eclectic skills including comedy, improvisation and the art of persuasion. As an award winning speaker and salesperson Sharon uses her skills to help people become persuasive and influential speakers.




Ian Cogdell, HR Business Partner, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited

Ian is a highly experienced and innovative organisation development professional specialising in the areas of leadership development, change management, strategy facilitation, knowledge management, executive coaching and team development.
He was a member of the Directing Staff and Head of Knowledge Management and Strategic Change Management at Mt Eliza Centre for Executive Education, Melbourne Business School for six years. He has worked with clients throughout Australia and in the Asia Pacific Region, has been the Facilitator/Chair of the Innovation session at the Australian DAVOS Connection Futures Summit and is a member of the World Future Society. Ian is the author of the book, The Nine Dots – Understanding the Three Faces of Self using the Enneagram.

Elaine Bensted, Chief Executive, Zoos South Australia

Elaine commenced as the Chief Executive, Zoos South Australia  3rd September 2012.  Since being in the role Elaine has led an improvement in the financial position of this conservation charity and an increase in Zoos SA membership base from 26,000 to over 43,000.  She also led the work that culminated in the release of a 20 year Master Plan for both Adelaide and Monarto Zoos in early 2015. Prior to being appointed as Chief Executive, Zoos South Australia Elaine held the position of Chief Executive, Office of TAFE SA. Elaine has previously held senior positions in State and Local Government, and the private sector in the finance industry. Elaine was the recipient of the 2014 Australian Institute of Management Not for Profit Manager Award.

Elaine is also a Board member of Nature Play SA, Zoos & Aquarium Association (ZAA), Children’s University Advisory Board, the Uni SA Under Graduate Advisory Board, The Australian Rhino Project Board and the International Koala Centre of Excellence Advisory Board.

Tom Colyer MIML Emerging Leaders Board, Institute of Managers and Leaders

Never one to be bored, Tom fills his time with many roles across various industries.  Currently Managing Operations for an Adelaide based logistics company Tom also has a keen sense of community and volunteering and is the State Chair of the Refrigerated Warehouse and Transport Association of Australia, and is the Chairman of an Adelaide Food Relief Charity.

With experience from the fast-paced sectors of Retail Management and The Defence Force Tom’s passion is leadership, strategic planning and creating a positive work environment. Currently Studying a Master of Business Administration, his goal is to work with and in boards to achieve positive outcomes through smart policy.
