Ann Messenger is a Chartered Accountant who studied marketing and operations management before specialising in accounting and finance. Ann began her career in banking and has had a range of commercial experiences both in Australia and overseas, including six years in Latin America where, as an equities analyst, she covered emerging markets during the mid-1990s.
In Australia, Ann has worked in corporate finance and middle market advisory roles with accounting firms KPMG and HLB Mann Judd in the early 2000s before moving into Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer roles with organisations including the Sydney Chamber of Commerce. In recent years Ann has developed a strong interest in the not-for-profit and education sectors. Ann worked as General Manager of St John’s College (within the University of Sydney) from 2009-10 with responsibility for the financial and commercial management of the College. In 2011, Ann was appointed to the Mosman Council’s Development Assessment Panel.
Ann is a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Geoff Fary is Chair of the Federal Government’s Asbestos Safety & Eradication Council and is a former Assistant Secretary of the ACTU, Ex-Chief of Staff to a Federal Government cabinet minister and was a senior executive at George Weston Foods Ltd and Nestle Australia.
Geoff’s working life has been devoted to Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations and his career moves have given him the unusual perspective of corporate, government and union experiences.
Geoff is a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Mike Zissler is the Chief Executive of the Australian Property Institute having been in that role since October 2014. Prior appointments include the Chief Executive Officer of Lifeline Canberra, the Commander of the Northern Territory Emergency Intervention and the Chief Executive Officer of a large ACT Government Department. He has extensive public sector experience having been in senior roles with a number of State and Territory Government agencies.
Mike has a British Army background and trained as a Paramedic/Registered Nurse before specialising in Paediatrics in the NHS. Arriving is Australia in 1988 Mike has undertaken a Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration and a Masters of Business Administration and has specialised in organisational development and change often working with organisations undergoing governance, constitutional and financial crisis.
Mike is a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.
Cherie is the CEO and Executive Director of Revelian where she is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the business. Here she delivers global solutions that utilise advancements in both technology and psychology, while optimising the individual potential of her team. Cherie joined Revelian (then Onetest) in 2003 as an intern, progressing to Head of Psychology in 2005, then became the CEO in 2015. During this tenure Cherie also managed the sales and marketing teams, client and technical services divisions, while holding not for profit Non-Executive Board positions after hours.
Cherie was recognised as the 2016 AIM Regional, State and National Leader/Manager of the Year in the Leadership Excellence Awards, and was also a QLD finalist in the 2015 Telstra Business Women’s Awards. Cherie is a registered Organisational Psychologist and Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Cherie understands people and how to motivate their behaviour to deliver successful business outcomes. She is a strategic thinker and an authentic, passionate leader. She values effective communication, credibility and the delivery of quality, commercial outcomes. She regularly presents at conferences, contributes to the media and guest lectures at a number of leading universities. She is also a wife and proud mum of two who loves to share a glass of wine with her girlfriends.
Stephanie is an experienced senior marketer, working with business leaders nationally to create tailored and integrated marketing strategies aligned to business objectives.
With an established background in marketing, communications and branding Stephanie’s experience has been varied from working in a small start-up to national law firm Minter Ellison and global firm PwC. Currently at PwC Stephanie operates in a national role acting as an advisor to senior leaders across the business on all matters of marketing. She also acts as an Executive Coach on personal brand to high performing firm Partners.
Stephanie is a member of the Institute and has been involved with IML for a number of years, most recently serving on the Institute of Managers and Leaders Emerging Leaders Advisory Board.
John Withers has extensive experience as a leader and manager in Defence, and more recently in the private and public sectors. After completing his schooling in Melbourne, John entered the Royal Military College and served as an officer in the Australian Regular Army for 25 years in the Infantry and the Special Air Service Regiment. After leaving the Regular Army in 1998, John moved to Hobart where he has worked in the private and public sectors.
John is currently a HR specialist with the Tasmanian State Government holding a number of positions in the Department of Education and more recently the Department of Justice.
For the past 17 years, he has been an active member of AIM in Tasmania serving as a member of the local committee of management, implementing and facilitating on the Aspiring Manager Program, and the IML Business Leadership Awards.
John is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Marie-Louise has over 32 years in sales and management experience in the energy, telecommunications and ICT industries. As part of the Extended Leadership Group at Jacana Energy, Marie-Louise has directly been involved with the recent establishment of the Commercial & Industrial business of the Territory’s largest retail electricity company. With her background in management at IBM, Optus, and now Jacana Energy, Marie-Louise has extensive management experience in complex changing businesses and is keenly interested in delivering value and strong governance.
Under her Chairmanship of the IML NT Council 2006 to 2012, IML NT saw its strongest ever recorded Membership and participation rates. Marie-Louise has a strong history of leadership in community organisations. Most recently these included being Chairman of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra Board and Chairman of the Anchorage Sister Cities Committee of the City of Darwin. Marie-Louise won the 2014 ALEA award for Community Leader of the Year.
Marie-Louise is a Life Member and Fellow of IML, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences.
After gaining invaluable consulting experience in organisations such as Hungerfords, and KPMG, Andrew established his own consulting company MOMENTUM Business Advisors Pty Ltd in 1988 where he is Principal Consultant. Andrew is a Director of multiple companies in the Momentum Property Group, Director of AIM ET, the CEO of Bene Aged Care (Aged Care Provider with over 650 staff and volunteers), and was previously a Director of Nepenthe Wine Group and Member of the Women’s and Children’s Health Network – Audit and Risk Committee.
MOMENTUM Business Advisors Pty Ltd provides a range of professional consulting services including accounting advice, taxation, financial management information systems, business advisory, executive outsourcing, business re-engineering and systems solutions. Andrew has an extensive history in the provision of professional management and business consulting services to a diverse range of not-for-profit, commercial and private clients. Andrew specialises in the SME, finance, wine industry, aged care and welfare service industries. His particular field of expertise includes strategic planning, business planning, management consulting, systems reviews, and financial management information systems.
Andrew has a Bachelor of Economics and is a Member of the Certified Practicing Accountants, a Registered Tax Agent, Certified Professional Manager and a Life Member of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Melissa is an experienced executive, company secretary and lawyer who has worked for one of Australia’s leading commercial firms, as well as in-house for large mining and resources firms. She has also worked as a strategic advisor for a planning, environment and project management services firm and was responsible for company governance and corporate legal oversight at a venture capital and private equity firm. She is currently the CEO of a junior exploration company and sits on the board of the first proprietary horse racing company in Australia.
Melissa holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Business Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Laws and Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She is a member of the Queensland Law Society and is an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders.
Melissa Sinopoli is the Commercial Practice Group Leader at MacDonnells Law, overseeing the 40+ commercial team state-wide.
She practices predominantly in the areas of corporate and commercial law and has experience in a variety of commercial matters and has advised small, medium and large businesses, private companies, public companies and not-for-profit organisations in an array of industries, as well as government-owned corporations and local governments.
Melissa was a finalist in the national Lawyers Weekly Senior Associate of the year in 2015 and has previously won the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland lawyer of the year Award. Melissa is also a Board member of various Boards and is the CEO and Founder of an innovative digital start-up in the legal space.
Rebecca is a passionate marketer and leader. The pace, the continuous development in the digital space and ability to be dynamic are just some of the many things that she loves about the ever evolving business landscape.
Rebecca has been personally acknowledged as the 2015 IML Young Manager of the Year and is based in South East Queensland.
Matthew started the Pepper Innovation Centre in late 2015 for Pepper Group. Pepper Group is a diverse global financial services organisation, with operations across Australia, Europe and Asia. The Innovation Centre was established in response to the Group’s strategic direction to help uncover, understand and meet unmet customer needs. As the Head of Innovation, Matthew leads the overall innovation programme and strategy with his team of portfolio managers who specialise in user experience, human-centred design, data science, cloud engineering and software development.
Matthew is an experienced financial services professional, working across senior project and operational management positions for both Pepper Group and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He has also been a judge in the global finals of the Challenge Cup event held by 1776, the global startup incubator.
Matthew holds a Doctorate from the University of Newcastle where the focus of his study was on Corporate Social Responsibility. He also holds an Executive MBA and Bachelor of Business. Matthew has also recently been appointed to sit on IML’s Emerging Leaders Board from 2017.
Matthew is a passionate innovator, Melbournian and confident leader whose focus is on making things happen.
Tamsin is a Section Manager in the not-for-profit, healthcare-related sector. Her role covers a range of responsibilities including managing the coordination of educational activities, sponsorship procurement, promotion of and branding for the section, and leading key healthcare-focused projects.
Tamsin began her career in medical research and was awarded a PhD in 2013. Following this, Tamsin was appointed as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide. She then transitioned out of research into healthcare management and is currently undertaking a Master of Business Administration, which is near completion.
Tamsin is a strong advocate for emerging leaders both in South Australia and nationally, and looks forward to supporting her peers through this challenging stage of career progression.
As Principal Consultant at Mapfort, – management consultancy specialising in business strategy, culture and risk – Rob guides leadership teams in the development of influential strategy with implementable roadmaps. He has managed strategy projects for multinational clients, worked with top management during crises and planning, as well as facilitated strategy, culture and risk workshops with senior executive teams.
Rob has advised individual companies sizing from 20 to 120,000 employees and global industry working groups. He believes that the rapidly changing global landscape requires companies to better integrate culture and risk management practices. His consulting and management approach is anchored on actionable, solutions-focused and authentic interactions.
Rob is an Associate Fellow at the Institute of Managers and Leaders, where he sits on its Emerging Leaders Board. He is also completing an MBA at Melbourne Business School.
Never one to be bored, Tom fills his time with many roles across various industries. Currently Managing Operations for an Adelaide based logistics company Tom also has a keen sense of community and volunteering and is the State Chair of the Refrigerated Warehouse and Transport Association of Australia, and is the Chairman of an Adelaide Food Relief Charity.
With experience from the fast-paced sectors of Retail Management and The Defence Force Tom’s passion is leadership, strategic planning and creating a positive work environment.
Currently Studying a Master of Business Administration, his goal is to work with and in boards to achieve positive outcomes through smart policy. Tom has also been known to enjoy the occasional plate of chicken wings at his local eatery.
Stephanie is the founder and CEO of PROJECT FUTURES a not for profit organization that raises awareness and funds for anti-human trafficking projects in Australia and Cambodia.
In 2014 Stephanie was named one of The Financial Review and Westpac’s 100 Women of Influence and joined IML’s Emerging Leaders Board in 2015 after being named as one of their 30 under 30 achievers.
Michael is an engineering professional with experience on projects up to $AU3.5 billion in value within Australia, and internationally with a Fortune 500 company.
After graduating from Monash University, he worked as consultant with Beca within infrastructure, utilities, mining and industrials. Michael moved to Norway in 2012 to design and build drillships with Cameron International.
Returning to Beca as a Project Manager, he is currently providing advisory services to Melbourne Airport. He is studying his M.B.A. at Melbourne Business School.
As Chief Executive of IML since June 2015, David is responsible to the Board for the delivery of IML’s 3-year Leadership Matters strategy, and for the leadership of the wider IML team.
His real passion is in setting and driving strategy for the benefit of IML’s Members and defining IML’s internal culture for the benefit of employees.

As GM Finance & Operations and Company Secretary, Susanne holds a dual role at IML. Susanne is very excited to be involved at all levels, from Governance, to strategy setting and then the implementation at an operational level.
On a day-to-day basis Susanne looks after all aspects of the organisation’s administrative services, including finance & accounting, HR, IT and legal affairs. As Company Secretary Susanne supports the Board in their role as the governing body of IML and ensures that we meet all compliance obligations.
