Behind the scenes of a much-loved Christmas tradition

The Myer Christmas windows have been delighting generations of children since 1956. For more than 20 years, Myer has partnered with creative director John Kerr and his production company Stage One to create the magical scenes.

In 2015, the windows’ theme was based on Little Dog and the Christmas Wish, a book by author Corinne Fenton and illustrator Robin Cowcher that is set in 1950s Melbourne. The design of the windows is a team effort and even includes input from Myer’s chief executive, Richard Umbers. Two sets of decorations are made: one for the Bourke Street store in Melbourne and the other for Brisbane’s Queen Street store.

Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins joined Umbers, The Hon. Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, Channel Seven’s Rebecca Maddern and special guest Santa Claus at the 60th anniversary launch at Bourke Street Mall in December 2015.

So how many people are needed to make it happen?
